some days bounce more than others, i guess.

18 11 2003

i just don’t have an infinite supply of bounce to go ’round, hm? but being piglet has its own perks:

You are Piglet.
You choose your friends wisely and even though they
may be few in number, they are high in
You feel most comfortable when you can follow the
crowd and let others make decisions. But that’s
not to say you can’t make up your own mind if
you need to.
Faithful and true, Piglets make the best friends.

i am NOT “only just a very Small Animal”: notice they play up the loyalty thing and not the fraidy-cat aspects of his traditional personality. and it’s not that i mind deciding, but just that i often care less about things like “chinese or pizza” than i figure someone else does, so i let ’em pick.

i’m all about the friend-thing though. i’ve been trying to write for class, and failing, and thinking about old friends. did the IMPOSSIBLE today and actually conversed w/c.l.k., whom NOBODY ever hears from. it made me THRILLED and also wistful about not only her but lots of other people loved-and-lost… or at least lost from the here-and-now. i’m a believer in paths-that-cross. if we have more to learn from one another, we’ll find each other another time. but believing in those long-term interweavings and being content w/o peeps in the here-and-now aren’t always the same thing!

wahyagar, i still have that pooh-and-piglet card you gave me half a million years ago. i almost threw it out during the many moons when we didn’t/couldn’t talk to one another, but i’m glad i didn’t. thanks for crossing paths with me again.

and l_stboy, arguably the biggest believer in taking-off and crossing-paths-again-if-the-universe-turns-out-that-way-by-happenstance i’ve ever met, thanks for never leaving.

Re: i sense a pattern here…
you too are a wonderful friend-y type who gather folks to you and don’t let them go. not a bad thing at all to be, if you ask me. 🙂

kanga. go figure.
although i dont know if kangaroos can wear boots….
(this non-sequitor brought to you by: too much coffee)
your thoughts on friends and people are right on, particularly the bit about “believing in those long-term interweavings and being content w/o peeps in the here-and-now aren’t always the same thing!”… it IS Hard to find Peace with What Is, when that What Is has Very Important People holes in it. but then again, no one ever said Being Zen was Easy. or is that the Point of Zen–that is IS in fact, Easy, and that we make it Hard? anyway. apprently i need to lay off the coffee. or have more and just go right over the edge.
*kiss* here’s to Being Ok with the People in our Lives, Just the Way they Are.

Re: kanga. go figure.
too much coffee makes you chase your own tail. which is kind of cute. even on a kangaroo. or, maybe ESPECIALLY on a kangaroo w/boots on.
i think you make a wonderful kanga. that’s perfect. (i’m guessing their tigger was a little too carefree for all of us… we have our tigger moments, but we can’t test careless through-and-through)
just don’t let the Very Important People dig their OWN holes in YOUR is. “Just the Way they Are” is perfect too. a too-much-coffee-toast right along with you.
when you come up to do the toasting for real, we’ll have those w/whipped cream. it’s easier to accept ANYTHING with whipped cream on it. *hug*

Re: kanga. go figure.
yeah, their tigger was a little too care-less and self-involved, methinks….. but i still think boots on a kanagaroo might be a little challenging….
will work on the no-hole-digging ruling…..
mmmmm…..whipped cream……. *lick* :}

Re: kanga. go figure.
Well for those of use who are tiggers 😉 carefreee seems to work 90% of the time 🙂 it is just the other 10% that makes life that much more exciting…..

Re: kanga. go figure.
you’re a good tigger. b ‘an me like to think of ourselves as tiggers, which i think we are sometimes, but then others we’re not so charmingly cavalier, having this tendency to… dwell and overthink and worry in ways that tiggers rarely do. i love you ‘zactly for being just the very tigger you are. 🙂

Ok, that’s the first quiz I’ve taken on this silly thing, and although I was trying for Owl or possibly Rabbit, I appear to be, in fact, pooh. :}
Indulgence is not a bad word as far as you’reconcerned, your confidence in being yourself iswhat matters more than all that.
The most loyal of friends and always good fun to bearound, everyone needs someone like you intheir life.

It would be very difficult to leave, you know. First you set yourself up as the pirate princess and damsel in distress, then while I was away through so many sweet words and confidences you became Beatrice to my Dante, Lady Milagra, Apollonie to my Baudelaire. You made me a poet as well as a rogue, and I am still intoxicated.
Fortune keeps me (yes I’m a kept man) so happenstance has made a habit of happening lately. Barring a brief balancing of the karmic scales at an Indian casino in Connecticut last week, I see things going will for a while to come 🙂

dear Dante,
the next time we pass on the street
i’m going to wink
and ruin history

Re: quiz
p.s. the best i could find of your milagra was this post to a children’s online story-board somewhere in britain (each young blogger gets to put in a paragraph or two, and then it’s passed on to the next one in a round):

“By the time Milagra came, Tigereye was slipping. But Milagra chanted the words of acient tigers and energy came
from the trees around him to heal Tigereye…”

so, just in case you ever need a hand, remember. i shall chant the words of ancient tigers just in time to save the day.
baudelaire seems awfully mopey, though. best i can check the story, she’s a saint for forgiving him and staying friends… “killing frosts” and other nice turns of phrase notwithstanding, his poetry seems a bit downtrodden. i think i like yours better!

Re: quiz
Baudelaire was a mopey bastard- I actually wasn’t aware they had much contact, I was taught that, like b. and d., he held her up as inspiration but never had any real contact with her. But his poetry is quintessentially French, and really, really hard to translate to english, so here:
(read it out loud, even if you don’t have the french anymore to fully understand 🙂

L’Invitation au voyage
Mon enfant, ma soeur,
Songe à la douceur
D’aller là-bas vivre ensemble!
Aimer à loisir,
Aimer et mourir
Au pays qui te ressemble!
Les soleils mouillés
De ces ciels brouillés
Pour mon esprit ont les charmes
Si mystérieux
De tes traîtres yeux,
Brillant à travers leurs larmes.

Halfway decent translation
Or this one:

Le Poète est semblable au prince des nuées
Qui hante la tempête et se rit de l’archer;
Exilé sur le sol au mileu des huées,
Ses ailes de géant l’empêchent de marcher.

Couldn’t find any good translations of this one, from L’albatross

Re: quiz
this is not quite a reply to any of what you offered up… which i can read in part and will have to return to, having acquired not enough french to keep up but just enough not to trust translation.
this is something else, which is also true, and maybe “domestic as a plate” and maybe something else entirely.
he idolized her in his weird, doom-tinged sort of way, and of course in imagining everything he over-imagined and imagined her too real and therefore icky so he couldn’t love her after all, not in the real, b/c he couldn’t handle reality, really (not that he tried, w/her). so he told her that, and she told him he was an idiot, and they stayed good friends forever after. so it’s all in terms of how you define “contact.” 🙂 that’s the short, mythic version i found, anyway!
